Happy Idea 136

Want to automatically think more positively?

A great exercise to train the mind to develop a positivity bias is through the “Reinterpretation of Past Events“:

In short:Consider an event from the past, preferably a mildly negative event at first, and spend around 3-4 minutes mentally searching for as many positive outcomes as possible.

Consider an event from the past, preferably a mildly negative event at first, and spend around 3-4 minutes mentally searching for as many positive outcomes as possible.

Think about the new information you obtained through the experience, the lessons learned that will help you in future or if the situation were to repeat itself.

Did the event create an opportunity for fresh new beginnings, justify a new purchase or open unexpected alternative pathways?

Ask questions like: “What was great about this? Why was that exactly what I needed? What else did I learn from this?”

With time and practice you can reconsider increasingly recent “negative” events, and find good in them too.

The more we practice tuning the mind to prioritise positive outcomes, the more positive outcomes you will find. Eventually you will be able to process difficult situations in real time and enjoy living a happier more positive life!
