Consumer advertising is designed to encourage you to compare yourself with others and it tries to make you feel dissatisfied with what you have. Comparisons like this can really hinder happiness!
You can try and actively reduce your exposure to advertising, change conversations that drift that way and if a comparison is absolutely unavoidable, try instead to develop a “Selective social comparison”.
That means instead of comparing yourself with more financially wealthy, “beautiful” or famous people, select the other 1% of society and see how lucky you are to not have been born in the time of the plague. Or into a life of oppression, fear, and struggle.
If you’re reading this you’ve got more reasons to be happy than almost every other human that ever lived.
Why not pass on this little Hi to someone that might also like to start their day on a Hi note!
