To be fully happy we have to take the time to understand what we value most. It seems too few people actually pause to consider what has true value for them.
Too many people have spent great effort and sometimes made great sacrifices for values that, fundamentally, meet no meaningful needs for them personally.
We can be subjected to misleading expectations from friends and loved ones, colleagues and community, and certainly, to arrive at a clear understanding of one’s own personal values can be difficult to achieve, but to fail to “know thyself” is to leave the greatest, deepest, most meaningful elements of happiness just out of reach.
This is the whole point of what life is for.
